Networking Basics – 21 Tips to Success
|
In
January, I conducted an online survey all about how people network.
So this month's issue is all about networking. I am sharing two
articles I recently wrote, this one on Business Networking Basics and
Article Two on Virtual Networking. If you are interested in knowing
the results of the survey, send me a message heidi@speakingwithspirit.com
and I will send them to you. In addition, we have a new survey
on the topic of marketing, which you can read about in MarketTime
(below). In addition, the South Florida Chapter of WECAI.org is
hosting a meeting on February 23 - a panel discussion with a Travel
Agent, Business Coach and Therapist - I will be moderating. To
read more about it, click
here, or visit: http://www.wecai.org/newsite/january_program.asp.
"Relationship
networking is about who you know and more importantly, who knows you.
Building the right network can open new doors to future success
in your business."
Heidi Richards
Effective
networking is all about making connections and creating long
lasting relationships with other business professionals.
Relationship networking is about who you know and more
importantly, who knows you. Building
the right network can open new doors to future success in your
business. Here are 21
tips to help you build a strong network..
1.
Begin with the end in mind. When attending networking
functions, define your objectives.
Determine what your goal(s) is/are for every event you attend.
After all, your time is valuable and having a goal makes the
effort more crystallized in your mind.
2.
Develop a plan of action for how best to “work the room,” or meet
people. Put your plan in
writing and you are more likely to stick with it.
3.
The handshake is important.
People judge one another based upon the “grip” of the hand.
If it is too firm, you may be perceived as overpowering or
superior, if it is too weak, you may appear wishy-washy.
Practice with a family member or friend until you feel
comfortable that yours is just right.

Virtual
Networking – 7 Ideas for Making Connections Online and Developing a
Loyal Following
"Virtual
networking is a great way to meet
people around the corner or around the world.
What better way to reach out and touch someone in the 21st
Century than the Internet?"
Heidi
Richards
The
Internet has brought about many opportunities for us to network
without leaving our office or our home. In fact, almost any form of
Internet presence can offer opportunities to network. And the goal of
Virtual Networking is to “get noticed,” to meet people and to
develop relationships on your own time and in your own space.
Look
for groups where people you want to get to know “hang out.” You
can start by searching in your favorite search engine (such as Google
or Yahoo) for your professional affiliation or business expertise and
you may find more resources than you will ever be able to review.
They can include associations, schools teaching your topic,
online communities, competitors and colleagues, resource sites, job
posting sites and publications. Here are a few other ideas for virtual
networking sure to get you noticed: To read the rest of the article, click
here or visit: http://www.speakingwithspirit.com/VirtualNetworking.asp
