WEDDING Frequently Asked Questions

1. License fee for Florida is currently $93.50.  If couple goes through four-hour counseling course prior to obtaining marriage license, the fee is reduced. 
2. Bride and groom are required to be present when license is issued, the exception - when license is   obtained by mail.
3. A picture ID is required (state driver license, passport) - (U.S. Alien registration card is not accepted);
4. Marriage License is valid for 60 days; wedding must be performed and submitted within this time frame or another license must be obtained.
5. If divorced, you must know the date the divorce became final.  Some counties require a certified copy of the Final Judgment of Dissolution.  Please check with the Clerk of the Court in the county you are applying for a marriage license.  Proof is not required if widowed.
6. There is a three day waiting period after issuance of the marriage license.  For example, if you are to be married on Saturday, you must obtain the marriage license before Wednesday of the prior week for it to be valid. Couples who reside in another state or country, and come to Florida to get married, do not have to wait the tree days - they may get the license on the same day the ceremony is performed.
7. If you register and complete a four hour counseling course prior to obtaining the marriage license,  in addition to the lower filing fee ($61.00) there is no waiting period.
